Rob Minkoff was born in Palo Alto, California, on March 3, 1965. He studied at the California Institute of the Arts and graduated in 1987 with a bachelor’s degree in animation. He then went on to work as an animator for Walt Disney Animation Studios. His first directing job was on the animated film The Lion King, which won him an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 1995. He also directed the live-action remake of The Lion King in 2019.
Minkoff has also directed several other films, including Stuart Little, Mr. Peabody & Sherman, and The Haunted Mansion. He has also directed episodes of the television series The Amazing World of Gumball and The Lion Guard. He is currently working on the upcoming animated series The Rocketeer.
